Kefir for Dogs
Kefir is a probiotic-rich fermented milk drink that supports digestive health, boosts the immune system, and may improve skin and coat condition in dogs It contains beneficial bacteria and yeasts, such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Saccharomyces species, which help maintain a healthy gut microbiome Goat milk kefir is often preferred because it is easier for dogs to digest and contains less lactose than cow’s milk
Dosage and Administration:
• Start with small amounts, such as 1–2 teaspoons per day for small dogs or puppies and gradually increase based on tolerance.
• For adult dogs, a few spoonfuls mixed into food daily is generally safe.
• Observe for any signs of digestive upset, such as diarrhoea or bloating, and discontinue if adverse reactions occur
Precautions:
• Avoid kefir with added sugars, artificial flavours, or sweeteners like xylitol, which are toxic to dogs
• Dogs with severe lactose intolerance or dairy allergies should not consume kefir
